MOBILE PHONE & GADGET INSURANCE POLICY SUMMARY

This policy is underwritten by UK General Insurance Limited on behalf of Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) SE. It is arranged and administered by Warranty & Creditor Services t/a MyGadgetUmbrella. It is a mobile phone insurance and gadget policy and covers theft, damage to the equipment and misuse of airtime for cellular enabled devices. In order to be eligible for cover you must be the owner of the equipment, it must be less than 24 months of age at the time you apply for the insurance, be in good working condition and free from any damage or defects.
Theft and damage
- If the equipment is stolen you will be supplied with the same model of equipment if available, if the same model is not available then a replacement with similar features and functions will be provided.
- Theft must be reported to the police within 24 hours of the incident, you must notify your mobile network to bar your handset within 24 hours of the incident and the administrator within 48 hours of the incident.
- If the equipment is damaged or breaks down after the manufacturer’s warranty expires then you are covered for the cost of repair including parts.
- If the equipment is damaged or breaks down after the manufacturer’s warranty and is beyond economic repair you will be supplied with the same model of mobile equipment if available, if the same model is not available then a replacement with similar features and functions will be provided.
- There is an excess for each and every claim. The excess is £75 for iPhones, iPads and Laptops and £50 for all other Phones & Handsets. Games Consoles will incur a £25 excess.
- The maximum number of claims that may be made where the equipment is a total loss (stolen or damaged beyond repair) is two.
- The policy does not cover the cost of repair or replacement of SIM cards, car kits, batteries, chargers, aerials.
- The policy does not cover some instances of theft where the equipment has not been properly secured.
Loss
Subject to payment of an additional premium your equipment will also be covered for loss
- Loss must be reported to the police within 24 hours of the incident, you must notify your mobile network to bar your handset within 24 hours of the incident and the administrator within 48 hours of the incident.
- deliberately leaving the Equipment out of Your own sight but in view of other people is not covered
- you must promptly return to the place of Loss to try to recover the Equipment as soon as You become aware the Equipment has gone missing.
- You must check the Equipment is on Your person before leaving any form of public transport or taxi
- there is an excess of £100 for loss of iPhones & iPads and £75 for all other handsets. The excess for other tablets & games consoles will be £50
- Loss cover is not available for Laptops or Macbooks
Misuse of airtime
- If the equipment is stolen or lost (if applicable) and has cellular capability and is then used before disconnection, the policy covers all unauthorised calls made on the equipment up to a value of £250.
- The policy does not cover the cost of any unauthorised calls if the theft is not notified to your airtime provider as soon as theft becomes apparent.
Duration
- This is an annual policy lasts for 12 months and may be paid by monthly direct debit. If you make a claim you must pay the remainder of monthly premiums due for the year before we can consider your claim.
- Your policy will renew automatically each year unless you tell us in advance that you do not wish to renew the insurance. We will contact you prior to renewal to tell you the terms for continuing the policy.
Making a claim
- To make a claim, please complete a claim form at wcsinsurance.co.uk or call 01256 471387 for a claim form
- For theft claims you will need to provide a completed claim form, a crime reference and evidence of any forced entry (where appropriate). For Loss claims you must provide a Lost Property report
For misuse of airtime claims you will need to send your original airtime bill showing the calls that were made following theft. For damage claims you will need to send your handset to our authorised repairer.
Cancellation
- You will have the right to cancel this policy within 14 days of the start of the cover by providing written notice to the Warranty & Creditor Services, 6 Faraday Office Park, Rankine Road, Basingstoke, RG24 8QB. If you do not exercise your right to cancel this policy will continue in force indefinitely until termination by you or the underwriters.

- In the event of a complaint please write to the Customer Service Manager at Warranty & Creditor Services, 6 Faraday Office Park, Faraday Road, Basingstoke, RG24 8QQ stating the nature of your complaint and the policy number in the first instance.

Compensation
Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) SE is covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. You may be entitled to compensation from the Scheme if they cannot meet their obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim. Most insurance contracts are covered for 90% of the claim with no upper limit. Statement of price
Premiums vary from £1.99 to £17.99 per month depending on the gadget, type, make, model and value. Premiums include Insurance Premium Tax. The premium is separate from the cost of purchasing your mobile equipment or paying for your airtime. Premiums for loss cover are an additional £2.00 per month including Insurance Premium Tax.

This insurance product meets the demands and needs of a mobile phone and gadget owner who wishes to protect their handset from the costs of theft or damage. It has not been personally recommended by us.
